Space Hulk Tiles Close Ups

Space Hulk Tiles Close Ups

Space Hulk has arrived, and one of the few complaints we have heard people express was that the board tiles weren’t plastic. Really? If they had been plastic I think the box set would have cost about 300$ and it would have weighed a ton. Also, the card tiles that are in the box are downright amazing. They are very thick – close to 1/4″, printed on a very heavy duty cardboard. The tiles have great artwork on them with a glossy overcoat, and each piece has been pressed to put sunken areas in on each of the movement squares. Here is a close up of a pair of the rooms from the game. To us (super fans of FFG board games) this seems very much like what we have grown to expect from games like Descent, Runebound and the like. We are personally thinking that FFG has made...

Purity Seal Issue

Purity Seal Issue

I posted this in the forum a while back - I bought a new can of Purity Seal this week and I just went to seal my Forgeworld Khorne Terminators and it ruined them. It looks like I sprayed them with white primer. I have never had this happen before and I have been using this stuff for years. Anyone else have this problem lately? I ended up getting quite a few responses full of information that I wish I would have known before I freaked out. This post from littleboyblues was especially helpful - littleboybluesBlue Horror Telling a Knock Knock Joke Posts: 85Join date: 2009-06-25Age: 23Location: Little Rock Subject: Re: Purity Seal Issue Fri Aug 21, 2009 10:39 am It was the humitdity “The Horror Story : I finished the dreads and clear coated them and went out when they were dry to bring them in… and they...

Space Hulk Delivered!!!

Space Hulk Delivered!!!

Big D and I played our first three games last night.  We took turns playing the marines and frankly we both suck.  The marines are terribly hard to play, and I think there is a definite learning curve to be successful with them.  The game is fast paced and extremely fun to play, and you’ve heard that the models are bad arse about a million times by now – and seriously they really are that good.        Here are some shots of us setting it up and playing it.  It takes a full 6′ table to set the bad boy up on and you end up using a lot more space to boot.  The various rules for different space marine weaponry makes the terminators all play pretty differently, and we learned to respect the marine sergeant with thunder hammer and shield.  He adds 2 to his die...

Space Hulk Shipping Early?

Interesting things are happening… I was checking out the forums on Friday and I saw a post saying that someone (I forget who) had received an email from Games Workshop saying that their copy of Space Hulk had shipped. Then they got another email saying that their system was messed up and it wont ship out until next week for delivery on the fifth. I got home yesterday and had to turn around and head right back out. My wife said that I had received a package but I figured it was my packet for The World Wide War from 40k radio so I didn’t open it. A few hours later when I got home I grabbed the box and thought it was a bit heavy. It was also from Games Workshop. Sure enough, my copy of Space Hulk came in about a week early. So far I am...

Itkovian’s Morlock Wing

Itkovian’s Morlock Wing

Itkovian has been kind enough to post some pictures of his Morlock Wing in our forum. These models are looking really nice and I can’t wait to see them finished up. You should really head over to his blog and check out some more WIP shots. He even has some templates up if you are interested in modeling up any Pre-Heresy Terminators.

Snow Basing Guide

Snow Basing Guide

As I begin the new Wraith Guard army, I have decided that I would like to try to base my army in a manner I haven’t tried before. I want to snow base my army. That whole saying that you have to push yourself to improve – I buy into that completely. So without further ado, I wanted to share with you the best online tutorial I have found so far:http://www.dysartes.com/model/modelling/snowbase.php I have a miniature in progress, and I will post my results as soon as it is finished.

Ghouls to Plaguebearers – Finished

Ghouls to Plaguebearers – Finished

In the last post on these guys I showed you how I put the green stuff on the belly. Since then I have finished up the green stuff work and painted them up. The rest of the conversion was very straight forward. I rolled up little balls of GS and then cut them in half. This made little eyes. I then glued a horn or tentacle to the ghouls head, wrapped it in green stuff, roughed it up, and slapped on half a ball for an eye. After that I primed em up black, slapped on however many different colors of green and brown I had, washed em with Devlan Mud, and called it a day. Man I love Nurgle – I get to paint stuff shoddily and it turns out good.

The Banner for Hogs of War "Wife’s Perspective"

The Banner for Hogs of War "Wife’s Perspective"

As a wife of a very involved gamer, sometimes my husband recruits my knowledge and crafts into his gaming. Even though, I dread the messes he can make; we often enjoy one another’s company and are able to spend some quality time doing something together other than watching television. So when he asked me if we could make a banner for the Hogs of War, I said, “sure” He showed me a sample of a banner that was pretty extravagent but I thought we could do a good job with the Hogs of War icon. My first thought was that we would just buy some material, draw on the icon and color it in with paint pens. Most of these assumptions were incorrect! IDEA #1-(not too bad but definitely would have done differently) First trip to Hobby Lobby we purchased black canvas from the material section, some cheap white...

Ork Stompa – WIP

Ork Stompa – WIP

Another doozy of a project here – an Ork Stompa. I bought this guy right when it came out and have been working on it off and on ever since. I would have made better time on it but there were just so many pieces that it was a bit daunting. I decided to go for a straight forward Stompa without many conversions. This is the biggest model that I have built from a kit and I wanted to make sure I got it right. I figured that I will eventually pick up another one and I will go crazy on it. I didn’t use all of the pieces out of the box. If I found a spot where I could skimp on the bits a bit I did so. I wanted to use the bits on my scratch-built Battlewagon and this kit had plenty. The hardest part about...

Big Waaaagh Game 4 Battle Report/Picture Synopsis – Blood Angels

For game 4, I once again met Steve of the Blade N Bolter boyz and prepared to face his Blood Angels list.  Steve is a great guy, also known online as ‘Black Orange’ and ‘Green Blow Fly’ online.  I have played him several times, including in the last game of this years doubles tournament and at last year’s Waaagh in the doubles tournament.    The scenario we were playing was a bit silly and my goal was to kill his land raider, his Veteran Assault Squad (VAS) and his Dante model, all of which he was trying to keep alive.  Steve had to kill my Leman Russ squadron, which included my Executioner (my most costly model).  But for this game, your 2 highest cost units would not start showing up until much later than normal, meaning I had to play without my tank squadron, but that they also werent on...
