World Wide War – Guard vs. Nids battle report

Big Al sent me this battle report from when we faced off a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was very good.  I tried to add in a bit of my own recollection and tried to justify some of my crazy actions. – Jester Battle report recap Opening Thoughts: I have faced this army several times before and it has always ended the same – I get clobbered!  The amount of tanks that the IG can field makes it very challenging for an army that relies on close combat to do business.  Jeremy is fun to play against, and he knows his stuff (he didn’t drink enough beer during lunch to give me a tactical advantage either).  So I knew I had to get focused and pray for some luck if I was to have a chance.  The most recent incarnation of my nid list includes: Nids:...

September Rumor Round-up

Looks like there were quite a few good rumors out this month. Here is a recap - Here is a juicy tid-bit from over at BOLS concering some future Forge World releases - “I asked Forgeworld about xeno stuff such as: Ad-Mech, Knights and Eldar. They are very enthusiastic about that whole Ad-Mech stuff, but they said it is unlikely to happen anytime soon. Eldar were mentioned as playing a role in IA-9. Forgeworld said they have no plans for the mighty Phantom titan. Moving onto the remaining Eldar superheavy tanks (Void Spinner, Stormserpent), they mentioned that they are planning to make the Void Spinner, but if they ever get around doing the Storm Serpent it would probably a completely different design. So the current scoop is Void Spinner-likely, Storm Serpent-not. Turning towards Ad-Mech Knights, it was said they were looking into making some Imperial ones but their overall...

Space Hulk FAQ Up

GW has a FAQ up for Space Hulk – Link. So far we haven’t really had any odd rules questions come up but it is always nice to have something to reference if we do. The only question that I have had that is addressed is can you shoot a heavy flamer into a room with a marine. This hasn’t come up in game but I was just wondering. According to the FAQ you can as long as you have line of site and the target square is empty.

White Dwarf October 357 Issue Review

White Dwarf October 357 Issue Review

Sales Pimping Minimal (.5 of 1) They definitely push the wolves, but there are way too many spreads of older painting and hobby materials in here. There is already mention of the Christmas season and what you should buy… SheeshBattle Report – (.5 of 1) Space wolves vs. Daemons. A silly demon army using one of everything playing an okay SW list. Not bad on the write up, but very abbreviated turn sequence.Painting – (.75 of 1) How to paint up the SW shoulder pads and chapter, Heavy metal how to paint the metal wolf guard with claws. Standard bearer on painting night. Not too shabby, but nothing overly useful.New Materials – (1 of 1) Space wolf dudes set, termies set, and canis. Neat idea with all the heads and bits in a box. Very cool. I hate Canis. Good month for releases. Pretty ground breaking box set for...

White Dwarf Monthly Rating and Review

For my birthday in July, my wife bought me a subscription to White Dwarf. I was moderately excited since I have always bought most of the issues. What is funny, is that I have just now received my first issue at the very end of October. Talk about a press delay. I know for some, many feel that White Dwarf a glorified sales catalogue, but I still enjoy it each month for the most part. However, we all know there are better issues than others. Since I will now be getting every issue that comes along I thought I would develop a quantitative approach to help other hobbyists with the decision of whether they should or should not buy the White Dwarf in question. Here is how I will rate it: Sales Pimping Minimal – WD is here to sell goods, but I don’t want to feel like it.Battle...

Chaos Marine Bikers – What am I doing wrong?

Chaos Marine Bikers – What am I doing wrong?

Here is one of the first models that I did back when we got back into 40k. I was really excited about these guys so I bought up a few boxes of them and have a little warband of 6 of the guys. I played several games with them early on but they just never performed for me. The way I would run them was pretty bare bones – 6 guys with an icon of Chaos Glory. Looking back at it I realize that I didn’t have any punch in them. So my question to you readers is what do I need to add to make them have the punch they so desperately need? My best guess is to add in a few Meltaguns and a champ with maybe a Powerfist. What do you guys think?

Aumbdss the Chaplain

Aumbdss the Chaplain

I played a fun game against necrons the other night.  No C’tan and no monoliths.  Just bucketloads of necrons, led by a pair of lords with scythes and a bunch of destroyers.  I must report about a series of unfortunate events that happened in this battle.  It seems that my Blood Angels have found themselves the worlds worst chaplain.  Some of you may remember the story of the worst chaplain that ever lived in this post:http://www.thehogsofwar.com/2009/07/luckiest-chaplain-aliveer-to-have-ever.html Well I only thought he was dead.  He and his inferior skills at leadership and combat came back full force in this game.  You see he was in his rhino with 7 death company and on the first turn they turbo charged their engines across the board.  It put them in position for a 2nd turn charge.  However on the necrons turn he charged my rhino with a lord in a big unit...

Deep Thoughts – Hrud anytime soon

Deep Thoughts – Hrud anytime soon

So as you read through Planet Strike, did anyone else note the bits and description on the Hrud? Did anyone find it a bit odd or exciting that the Hrud’s abilities were starting to be defined? Maybe its me, but a mention of rapid aging technology is awesome. What would be more fitting than space skaven with entropic weaponry causing molecules to break down. It almost makes me want to start some space skaven. What army would work best for them right now? Big D Here – Just thought I would share this awesome picture of a converted Hrud I saw over at Dakka –
