The More 40k You Know

The More 40k You Know

Poison Everyone knows that poison wounds on a 4+ or even better if it is a special poisoned weapon of some sort. Something you might not know; poison MUST be re rolled to wound if the strength of the attacker is equal to or higher than the toughness of the defender. Think about that next time your plaguebearers are in hand to hand with some astartes.

Ogre Kingdoms – Gnoblar Scraplauncher – A Hunk of Pewter!

Ogre Kingdoms – Gnoblar Scraplauncher – A Hunk of Pewter!

I know I keep saying that I ‘finished’ my Ogre Kingdom army on here but as Jester said to me the other day – You don’t ever REALLY finish an army. Well, I am definitely in that stage of being finished. I decided that I could add a few units to my existing Ogre army and they would play in an entirely different way. The units I decided to add were some Gnoblar Trappers and a Gnoblar Scarp Launcher. Let me tell you about the Gnoblar Scrap Launcher. According to some schools of thought it is a chariot, that is also a rock lobber while according to others it is a rock lobber that also happens to be a chariot. ‘But wait!’ you say – ‘isn’t that the same thing?’ You would think so just looking at it but from what I have read you can almost treat it...

New WWII Game from GW?

I saw this pop up in a few places today - From Dakka- Apparently at the Historical Wargames group held at Warhammer World last month, Warwick Kinrade was demonstrating a new WWII game that Forgeworld are planning to release next year. Apparently it is aimed at 20mm or 15mm rather than 28mm and has a planned release date of “early on” next year. The mechanics are reported as owing nothing to Warhammer. No comment about whether figures will accompany the rules, although it sounds unlikely looking at the comment about it being applicable for a couple of (admittedly only slightly) different scales. Could be the first fruits of Warhammer Historical’s subsumation within Forgeworld? An interesting rival to FoW? And also from over at Game Headz - There are some persistent rumors in trade Mags saying that GW MAY ( that’s a big MAY ) be getting in to historical...

Cosmic Encounter Expansion Incoming

Cosmic Encounter Expansion Incoming

The Hogs of War are always excited when an expansion to a boardgame we like comes out and it looks like one is on it’s way – Cosmic Encounter is going to be getting it’s first expansion. From Fantasy Flight Games - Today we’re thrilled to offer you a look at Cosmic Incursion, the upcoming expansion for Cosmic Encounter. The more the merrier. Anyone who’s enjoyed a game of Cosmic Encounter knows that more players means more fun. Not only is the game more enjoyable because there are greater numbers of alien powers and flares to contend with, but the game is an incredibly social one. More opponents and more allies are always welcome! In Cosmic Incursion we’ve included a full set of components in orange for a sixth player: twenty plastic ships, five planets, three matching destiny cards, and one player colony marker. All you’ll need to bring...

New Favorite Glue – Gorilla Superglue

New Favorite Glue – Gorilla Superglue

A while back I ran out of my trusty yellow bottle of Hobby Lobby glue. I have heard a few people talking about how they like Gorilla Super Glue so I decided to give it a try. I started out using this glue to assemble some Skaven Clan Rats. It worked very well bonding plastic to plastic – I would say that it even did a bit better job than the Hobby Lobby glue. It is about the same consistency as well, maybe even just a tad bit thicker. It dried just as fast if not faster as well. After I assembled and painted the Clan Rats I glued them down to a pizza box lid so I could spray them with a wash of Devlan Mud all at once. Here is where the glue didn’t perform as well. The Hobby Lobby glue would pretty much instantly bond to...

Steam Bike from Max Mini

Steam Bike from Max Mini

Saw this over in Max Mini’s Forum - For those wondering what we`re working on here`s an early preview of our first multipart kit – steambike: This is a rough version assembled from a basic set of parts (it includes main body, front wheel, 2 guns, handlebar). Full kit will also have legs for the rider and power lance that could be attached instead one of the guns. We`re also thinking about some accessory sprue that will include some sacks, ammo boxes and so on. They`ll be availible as an extra set or included in a core one (we`re still discussing this). This project was a lot of fun for me. Starting from my early idea, to Pawel`s early sketches, test model and then a finished one. I have a few ideas just churning around to use this bike for – Orks immediately sping to mind with those big cannons on...

Wolf Head Shoulder Pads Bits + More

Wolf Head Shoulder Pads Bits + More

I just found a new company (to me at least) that offers a pretty large range of shoulder pads.Link – Black Orc Games They have quite a large selection that is very different from other companies that are offering custom shoulderpads. The bits are also priced really cheap – 20 for $7.50. They also have a large selection of other miniatures. The freak show range reminded me of the Mordheim Circus of the Damned models – I am sure I could find a use for the Circus Cannon. Does anyone have any experience with this company? I haven’t heard of it until today but there stuff looks pretty solid and at a good price. I just might have to make an order in the next few weeks.

First Fantasy Game in Seven Years – Ogres vs. Chaos Warriors

First Fantasy Game in Seven Years – Ogres vs. Chaos Warriors

Well, it has been a long time coming but we finally got in a game of Warhammer Fantasy. Jester brought over his Chaos Warriors that he has been working on to face off versus my Ogres. I brought a standard magic Ogre army – 3xButcher 1xTyrant (w/ Tenderizer) and he brought a fast Chaos Warrior army – 2xMaruader Horsemen, 2xKnights, Lvl4 Wiz, 3xlvl2 Wiz, 2xWarriors, 2xMarauders, 1xGiant. I think I set up pretty good. I had my units of Ironguts and my one unit of Bulls across the middle of the board with a Scraplauncher dead center. I had my two units of Leadbelchers on either end of my army to help with flanks. I also had my two Gorgers in reserve to run on to the board. I deployed first and got first turn. On turn one my Gnoblar Trappers rolled bicker so they just stood there. So...

Tomb Kings in May?

Tomb Kings in May?

Looks like the rumor of Tomb Kings in May is starting to gain a bit of traction. This is the first I have heard of anything coming out for Fantasy after Beastmen. We have Nids in January, Blood Angels in February/March and now rumors of Tomb Kings in May. From Warseer - I am not entirely new to this forum as I’f been a silent reader for month but now I got some interesting info from a guy working at GW headquarters so I created an account to tell you. New Tomb Kings will be out in May 2010. So they will be the last armybook before 8th edition. I will list up the information he gave me in the following, text in italic are my personal comments on it. Where I write nothing about a unit, it means that either the unit stays as it is or my...

Why I’m Excited About Warhammer Fantasy

Why I’m Excited About Warhammer Fantasy

It has been a long while since I have played any Warhammer Fantasy. The last time I played was about six or seven years back. Sometime last year we all started talking about starting up a Fantasy army to play next summer – this was around this time last year. Well, this idea kind of puttered around and finally lost momentum amongst Jester and Monkey and myself. Sort of. They each picked up a box of Fantasy models and painted up one or two as a test but my obsessive compulsive behavior reared its head and I bought an Ogre Kingdoms battalion. I know you hear a lot of talk about how the Ogres aren’t competitive but for me that didn’t even factor into it – I love me some big models and the Ogres are just full of em. Over the next year I slowly worked on my...
