2k point trial guard army

Gotta start the revamp of my guard army. In the past I have suffered against taking out land raiders.... always. So I have added in a medusa with bastion breacher shells. str 10 +2d6 AP1 has a tendency to blow them apart. I have also had problems dealing with low armor horde armies, so I added in a new Valkyrie. This gives me more mobility and rocket pods for a continuous pair of big blasts each turn or give me added mobility against MEQ.

And to give opponents more to think about I am going with all in your face troops and chimeras. Al'Rahem will give the ability for 3 chimeras to sprint on from an edge. 3 penal legions can outflank, or ride a free valkyrie/vendetta scout move to be at a first turn charge. Marbo pops up and plays, all the while my 2 ccs chimeras zoom across the board. The plan? To keep opponents so busy with light units and chimeras the bigger stuff (hydras, medusa, executioner) has time to shoot them up from afar.

I do like that you are doing an "unconventional" list - its the first I've seen that actually is using penal legionnaires!

I don't understand though whats the use of two company commands if all your units are in transports (I'm assuming the penal guys are in the fliers)? The biggest strength of the company commands is the orders they can give, but with no units to order what is their use? Perhaps I'm just not thinking about them in the right way...

The CCS can give their orders from the rhinos and they can cast on themselves if they need to but they would have to get out. The ability of the chimera to move 6" and then fire 4 melta guns or 4 plasma guns from the back makes them what they are.

Yeah - and having your melta/plas squads be able to "Bring it down" are brutal.

Very in-your-face on the troop/infantry side. If you intend to get up close and personal with the enemy, you have to be careful with your Exec and Med templates. Friendly fire is a bitch. Playtest it some. I like where your thought process is. The fact you can fire 5 weapons out of a chimera is an excellent tactic with meltas and flamers.

Played it against Matts wolves last night. I liked the way it went. Most of the friendly fire fell against the sides of armor so it didnt matter much.
