New Dark Eldar Miniatures Rumors from Dakka

New Dark Eldar Miniatures Rumors from Dakka

This just in from Dakka - The warriors are not striding forward and hunched over like they are about to tip over- legs are laid out in a wide stance and the models are much, much better proportioned than the old ones, so no more legs that go all the way up and tiny torsos.  Helmets and non helmeted heads included.  Non helmeted head has a high ponytail.  Ribs/shards of bone poke through loincloths and the ponytail.  The helmets are pretty much identical to the above pic, but with lumps/gems over the ears/temples.  From behind the helmets look exactly like eldar guardian ones.  There is a gem/soulstone on the left chest armour- not the shoulder armour piece as per the above pic.  This is where you have to use your imagination as the pic doesn’t show it: On the back there is a backpack that looks like it started...

Warhammer Fantasy 8th Edition – What’s It To Me?

We are starting to see more and more concrete rumors concerning Warhammer Fantasy 8th Edition. Over at Dakka there is a really good post that sums up the most concrete rumors to date. As you can tell from the title of this post I am going to look at what these rumors (if they turn out to be true) mean to me. I am a very casual Warhammer Fantasy player. I have an Ogre army and about half of a Skaven army (which is still a TON of models.) I have played in one big multi-day tournament earlier this year, and I lost every game. I had a blast playing, but it really showed me the discrepancy in the power levels of the armies in Fantasy. In Warhammer 40k the armies are pretty much balanced against each other. You do see certain armies doing better than others, but only for a little...

New Models from Mantic Games

New Models from Mantic Games

The Mantic Games Newsletter is up. They are previewing a new elf unit and have some pictures of the undead Vampire Lord on Pegasus. First up is the new Palace Guard for the elves. This look like they would make pretty good Swordmasters of Hoeth for Warhammer Fantasy. These models are $25 for five models or $40 for ten models. This ends up being a bit cheaper than the Swordmasters if you buy them in lots of ten. The next advance order that is currently up is the Vampire Lord on Pegasus. I am really impressed by the detail on the above model. It looks crisp and full of character. But I am really not that impressed by the way they painted it. I am just not sued to seeing such vibrant and bright colors on undead models. I think this could be a really neat model if painted up...

New Black Library Offerings Seen in the Wild

New Black Library Offerings Seen in the Wild

This post came from Salute 2010 via Dakka - The speculation is that Garro – Oath of Moment is going to be another audio book based on the squareness of the image. I believe that the cover art for The First Heretic has been floating around for a while now. I have to admit that I have fallen way behind on my Horus Heresy novels. I really enjoyed them when I was reading them and I’m not even sure why I stopped. I had just started the Flight of the Eisenstein when I shelved the series for a while. I think it is probably time to go back. I have a ton of catching up to do.

Amazing Ork Conversion Bits from Kromlech.eu

Amazing Ork Conversion Bits from Kromlech.eu

Kromlech.eu has some conversion bits available that would work amazingly well with Orks. Currently available through MaxMini.eu are the following -  Mechanical Gun Arms  Mechanical Close Combat Arms  Mechanical Torsos Mechanical Legs Both the Torsos and Legs are currently out of stock but as well as these have sold (they went up for sale on the 6th of April) I imagine they will be making more very soon. I haven’t ordered any of these bits (yet – I am waiting on the Werewolf heads to be up for order) but I think I will get a set of those arms pretty soon – they just look too cool not to.

Ork Warboss on Warbike Conversion – Painted

Ork Warboss on Warbike Conversion – Painted

In my previous post on this model I showed you the finished conversion. Here are a few shots of my painted converted Warboss on Warbike. This guy was really fun to paint. Orks have so much character and are supposed to be dirty and grimey – and I can paint some dirt and grime (really about the only thing that I can actually paint well.) I started out by priming the model black and then drybrushed the whole bike with Boltgun Metal. I then picked out the skin with Knarloc Green, the cloth with Macharius Orange, and a few details with Dheneb Stone, Vallejo Brass, and Red Gore. I left everything dry and then applied a heavy wash of Badab Black. I painted up the base using my dirt recipe and then glued this bad boy down. Before I had primed the models I used my power drill to...

Alessio Cavatore Has Left Games Workshop

It looks like Alessio Cavatore left Games Workshop last Friday. Here is a post from Dakka with some of the details. It looks like this was more of Alessio leaving the company than he was fired. He has a startup game company - River Horse Games - that he has been working on since about 2008. Alessio was involved in many of the previous Warhammer Fantasy edition books (Skaven and Vampire Counts) and had a major hand in the 40k 5th edtion rulest and some of the 40k books that came out right before and after the 5th edition rules set (Chaos Daemons and Chaos Space Marines). It is speculated that a member of White Dwarf will move over to fill the vacant slot and it seems that I read something in the Blood Angels White Dwarf that said one of their members was moving over. Looks like this change might have been in...

Thoughts on Blood Angels So Far

Thoughts on Blood Angels So Far

Thus far in, I have gotten 9 games with the new codex.  I have seen some things I like, but sadly I have seen more things I don’t like.  Now granted, I am still learning to play the new ‘dex, but my expectations were that Blood angels were going to be a top codex in the tournament circle.  But I ask you, are they really? BA are assaulty, but certainly not the Assaultiest after a pretty good testing.  Blood angels have some excellent assault options.  The humble assault squad with its ability to pack a pair of special weapons (meltas) and its 35 point discount on transports makes them a real bargain. Since it is a scoring unit you have a great little unit that can inflict some good damage and still take and hold objectives.   Add in a sanguinary priest or the red thirst, and bang you get...

New Thunderwolf Mount from Micro Art Studio

New Thunderwolf Mount from Micro Art Studio

Micro Art Studio posted some greens for their new Great Wolf today. This model looks to be a good size to work as a Thunderwolf Mount for the Space Wolves. In a post a while back I posted several companies that had alternative models that looked like they would work. Depending on the price this one could prove to be one of the best options around. The release date is stated as being ‘probably next month’ so be sure to keep an eye out for this model in a few weeks.

Pictures of the New Eldar Tanks

Pictures of the New Eldar Tanks

Here are a few shots of the new Eldar Tanks that have been floating around the tubes. New Eldar Night Spinner New Eldar Fire Prism These pictures look to be out of a White Dwarf. I can’t make out much of the text on the page but it looks to me like the Night Spinner model is saying something about AP3 EDIT: Saw a little bit larger picture and you can make out that is says AP-) I quess they were putting the stats in parenthesis. This looks to be different about the same as from the Imperial Armour rules that give the models Shadow Weaver guns a 72″ range S6 AP- 7″ Blast. Not sure if it will keep the 7″ blast though. I like the look of this model. The new Fire Prism loks a bit goofy to me. I am just not sold on it. It might impress...
