Dwarf Artillery from Mantic Games

Dwarf Artillery from Mantic Games

Mantic continues to impress with a new piece of equipment for the Dwarves – an Organ Gun. This piece is still a resin prototype but it is coming along nicely. No work on price or when this will be available but it looks like it would be a good fit for any Warhammer Fantasy Dwarf players.

New Release From Dark Sword Miniatures – Spectre

New Release From Dark Sword Miniatures – Spectre

Dark Sword Miniatures has a new release from their Elmore Masterworks series – The Spectre from “Turned Back”. Here’s a shot of the model  And here is the artwork that inspired the sculpt This model just screams Nurgle to me. You could use this guy as a Chaos Lord, Chaos Sorceror, or evan as a Herald of Nurgle. I just really like the pose and the spikes coming out of the back of the model. The model costs right at $8 (which is a steal) and is available from Dark Sword’s Store and also from Cool Mini or Not’s online shop.

Sharp Looking Yellow Orks

Sharp Looking Yellow Orks

Mordian 7th has some really sharp looking Bad Moonz and Speed Freaks up. I was really impressed by this Trukk Conversion. I have put together quite a few of these kits myself and always left them pretty stock. Just re-arranging a few pieces can have a really strong influence on how the model looks. This Trukk looks more like a flat-nosed big-rig giving it an intimidating shape, almost like a mini-Battlewagon in silhouette. Aside from the red Speed Freaks, there are also quite a few Yellow Band Moonz on display. I know that yellow can be a really daunting color to paint but these are spot on. The yellow and black checks really stand out. It is nice to see some brightly painted Orks that don’t look cartoony. I bet these really stand out on the table.

Games Workshop Moving All Paints to Foundation Style Bottles

Games Workshop Moving All Paints to Foundation Style Bottles

This just in from Tabletop Gaming News - Thanks to Luigi and his friends at GW Shanghai for this photo of the new Games Workshop paint pots. No word on when these will be released. Looks like all of the Citadel line of paints is moving over to this type of bottle. I am interested to see how well these hold up – the current type of bottles are pretty hit or miss on drying out and seem to get messy around the top. I actually have pretty good luck with my Foundation paints – I don’t waste very much due to the pot being messy and I haven’t had bad luck on them drying out either. What are your opinions on this? Honestly I just wish they would move to a dropper style.

Manufactorum – Sanctum Imperialis Kit Bash

Manufactorum – Sanctum Imperialis Kit Bash

Needing some new scenery I decided to try my hand at some of the Games Workshop Warhammer 40k plastic building kits. I picked up a Manufactorum and a Sanctum Imperialis kit and spent an evening putting them together. Right from the start I knew that I wanted a pretty good sized building – the only thing I couldn’t decide on was if I wanted it to have a large footprint or to be vertically imposing. I decided to go for a mix of the two and this is what I came up with - I was working on the piece while Jester and Monkey were getting a game in and they both thought that the bottom level should pretty much block line of site except for the door. I had enough solid pieces between the two kits to make this happen. I used one small bit from the Warhammer...

Laser Cut Fantasy Terrin

Laser Cut Fantasy Terrin

Check this out – it is a Pringles can that has been turned into a fantasy Wizards tower by using a laser cut styrene kit from Brandlin. I know it sounds kind of hokey, but the end results speak for themselves. The kit is available for 14 British Pounds on eBay.co.uk so shipping to the US might be a bit high. This is a really neat kit and I will be sure to keep an eye out for any more kits from these guys.

New Cephalids from Dragonblood / Cavaclade Miniatures

New Cephalids from Dragonblood / Cavaclade Miniatures

Cavaclade Miniatures has some new Cephalid and Draconid Miniatures for sale. These miniatures used to be from Dragonblood Miniatures but they got bought out by Cavaclade. I actually ordered the Cephalid Telepath back when they were sold by Dragonblood and I was really impressed by the quality of the sculpt. There is tons of detail and it doesn’t look too busy. I am planning on using the model as a Nurgle Sorceror or Herald and I think it will fit the bill nicely.

Warhammer Fantasy Battles 8th Ed – Rulebook Demo Starting June 15th

Warhammer Fantasy Battles 8th Ed – Rulebook Demo Starting June 15th

The Games Workshop newsletter had an interesting little bit in it today. It looks like Hobby Centers will be getting a copy of the new Warhammer Fantasy Battles 8th Edition Rulebook to run game demos with starting on June 15th. I am not sure if this means only actual Games Workshop stores, or if stockists will be getting copies too. Either way it looks like we are just over two weeks out from the cat being out of the bag. As I’m sure you’ve heard me talk about before, for the majority of The Hogs of War Warhammer Fantasy just doesn’t float our boat with the current rules set. I was talking with Jester and Monkey the other day and if the majority of the rumors turn out to be true it looks like the new rules just might draw us back in. Guess we will find out in about two...

Spearhead Formations Available on the Games Workshop Website

Spearhead Formations Available on the Games Workshop Website

With the release of Warhammer 40k Spearhead Expansion in this months White Dwarf, Games Workshop has published 12 Spearhead Formations on their website. You have to be a registered user to see the article, which can be found here. I haven’t read the Spearhead rules yet (I plan on picking up the White Dwarf this weekend) but you can get a really good idea of the rules just by reading this formations. Each one reads like an apocalypse formation, only for normal sized games of 40k. Here is one of the formations that I found interesting – the Archeotech Spearhead. This formation is a pretty good representation of the type of formations in this expansion. Quite a few of them give you a bonus and a flaw. All in all I think the formations are pretty neat but I don’t see my gaming group really getting into this too much. Probably the...
