Dwarf Lord

Dwarf Lord

Finished up a Dwarf character that can be used either as a Lord or Thane. Made an attempt at object source lighting because every self respecting dwarf lord has to have a glowing hammer. I stayed with the gold and red color scheme, but made his cloak purple – he is royalty after all. Overall, I think it all blended together well.

Games Day UK – Forge World Teaser

Games Day UK – Forge World Teaser

Forge World has started posting some teaser pics from what they will be showing at Games Day UK - First up is the Necron Tomb Stalker - This model is just huge and beautiful. I hate centipedes more than about any other thing on this earth so this model just kinda creeps me out. Hopefully we get something like this in the new Necron Codex. Next up is the Grot Mega Tank - This thing looks great. To me it looks like a land train with the front ram on it. And last but not least it looks like Forge World’s new fantasy line – Warhammer Forge – will be making its debut this weekend. Hopefully we get lots of pictures.

New Dark Eldar Warrior Pic?

New Dark Eldar Warrior Pic?

Just saw this floating around the tubes and thought I would share it - This appears to be a new Dark Eldar Warrior. This is the first I have seen of a model like this. It appears to be holding a heavy weapon – Dark Lance? I’m not 100% sure that this is legit, but at this point I really doubt it is fake. I like it – they toned down the spikes and it actually looks kind of menacing. I have about 20 of the old Warriors painted up and it looks like they will mix in well with these new models – they aren’t a HUGE departure from the old models, though the new model looks a LOT better than the old ones.

Dark Eldar Rumors and Pics

Dark Eldar Rumors and Pics

Well the time is almost here – Dark Eldar are going to be out before we know it. This week we have had an actual-to-goodness picture drop of the new models, as well as some new rumors. First up is the picture of the new Incubi models - As blurry as this pic is the models are looking slick. I am reminded of the Tyranid Lictor when looking at the tubes on the back and I like it. As far as rumors go The Dark Eldar Kabal has it summed up pretty nicely - 3 blisters, 2 metal boxes, 6 plastic kits, our much anticipated codex and a final surprise in the form of a specialty item code most often given to something like themed dice or resin terrain. That is really all we know. There have been other rumors here and there – all weapons poisoned, Raider/Ravager variants,...

Who Needs Magic Anyway

Who Needs Magic Anyway

Finished up my Rune Lord and thought I would share. For those of you that don’t know dwarfs, they don’t use magic (per say). Dwarfs rely on their rune lords to help mitigate the magic from opponents. He may not look too tough. In fact, he has so many rune trinkets, tokens, and medallions he would jingle when he walks. Don’t get me started on how he avoids tripping over his never ending beard. I didn’t notice until I primed him, but he comes equipped with stein and pipe. Nice nod to dwarf character. Despite his appearance, on the battlefield Rune Lords can dish up some serious rune-based nastiness. One of my favorites is the rune that takes a power die and gives it to my dispel die pool in the enemy magic phase. It would be hard to play a game as dwarfs without one of these little...

Old Habits…

Old Habits…

Well this weekend I did something that I thought I would never do again – I played a couple games of Magic: The Gathering. Fifteen years ago, way back in 1995, I started playing Magic. Me and my older cousin had a really good time with it, and eventually a couple of my friends picked it up. We never go to heavy into it, just playing around and having a good time. As we moved through high school we eventually quit playing. When I got into college I hooked up with a big group of gamers and we played a bit of Magic here and there, never getting really heavy into it. After this we all just lost interest in it. I think for us one of the biggest reasons we quit was that we found another expensive hobby – Warhammer – to fill the void. Since then, about ten or...

First Game of Malifaux

First Game of Malifaux

This weekend I managed to get in a game of Malifaux with Jester. I had seen this game around on the web for about a year and I kept brushing it off. Capnwoodrow from the forums had talked about it a bit here and there, but no one really took much interest in it. This year when he came back from Gen Con he was still talking it up quite a bit, and a few of us decided to bite the bullet and order in a rulebook and a couple boxes of minis. After pretty much everyone else decided on what gang they were going to run, I decided to run the Ortega gang. This gang focuses heavily on ranged superiority, but have a few models that can dish it out in hand to hand. This box comes with Perdita (the leader, crazy stout at ranged), Nino (sniper, can...

New High Elf Miniatures Available for Pre-Order

New High Elf Miniatures Available for Pre-Order

The new High Elf miniatures are up for order today. It looks like the rumors turned out to be true as we have new White Lions, Phoenix Guard, and Dragon Princes. Also up for order is the High Elf magic cards. It looks like the pricing for the elite plastic box sets has continued, the White Lions and Phoenix Guard are $41.25 for ten models, and the Dragon Princes are $29.75 – that is cheaper than metal, but still pretty high for plastic. The models themselves look pretty nice, though I am not sure about the White Lions – the old models looked kinda goofy to me, as do the new ones. With these new releases and the Island of Blood set, it is now possible to build a really stout High Elf army entirely out of plastic. I look forward to this trend continuing on with other armies.

Ex Illis Starter Box

Ex Illis Starter Box

This week I go my hands on an Ex Illis starter set and couple of additional boxes. I haven’t had much time to dig into it properly yet, but I thought I would share my first impressions. Here is a shot of the starter box that I found on another site. This box is about the size of the Warhammer starter sets, but is a much sturdier box. I don’t know why, but the fact that it was a much sturdier box made me excited to get it open. Inside the box is a TON of plastic minis – somewhere just over fifty. The models are PACKED onto the sprues in the box. Since I didn’t have time to put together any of the minis I started looking for the rules. I dug around in the box and I didn’t find a rulebooks, but I did find the starter guide....
