This previous weekend I received a preview copy of the new Dark Eldar Codex, Warriors, Reavers, and Raider. My first instinct was to delve into the codex. At this point pretty much everything is known about the codex, but it really doesn’t sink in until I can hold the book and read it for myself. I have to say that I am pretty impressed. The codex is full of interesting fluff, gorgeous art work, and some really nice rules. I haven’t had time to really devour it yet, but so far I like what I see in the rules department. I finally found some pictures of the new Warhammer Fantasy terrain that is coming out late this year over at DakkaDakka - The price for the Dreadstone blight is $29.75, and the Witchfate Tor, Tower of Sorcery is $66. These pieces both look pretty sharp. I will probably pick up the Dreadstone Blight model, but am not too sure about the Tower of Sorcery – it depends on how big it is.
Here are some shots of my finished Malifaux Gang – the Ortega Gunslingers. I know the pictures aren’t the best – some of the models are out of focus, but between the two pictures you have a good shot of each model. I had a lot of fun painting these models, but they were also a challenge. I have not painted a lot of leather and these models had a TON of it on them. Perdita’s hair was also another challenge – she has a LOT of hair. For the leather I build it up from some of the darker GW browns up to a highlight of Bestial Brown. Two weeks ago I bought an Ultraforge Greater War Demon and started painting it. This last weekend I finished it up. This is the largest non-vehicle mini that I have ever painted and it was quite an experience. I started off by using a new priming technique – zenithal priming. This is basically priming the model black, and then spraying it white from the top to simulate light and shadows. I was happy with how the priming job turned out, I had feared it might dust up on me. From there I started putting the base colors on the model. For this skin I did a light wash of Red Gore and built it up using several layers. Fro the metal I started out with Tin Bitz, added a few layers of Gold, and then washed it with Devlan Mud. I think did a light drybrusing of Gold over the top of that....
