What To Expect In The Warhammer 40k New Necron Codex

Warhammer 40k Necron Tomb Stalker

Since the new Necron Rumors have gone kind of stale over the last few weeks I have decided to talk about what I think will be in the new Necron Codex. I think we can make a few assumptions and guesses based on what we have seen from the last several Codex releases as well as the general direction that the game is going.   The first thing that I think will be in there is a gimmee based on the last several 40k Codex releases as well as the last several Warhammer Fantasy Army Book releases – there is going to be somehting BIG in the codex. Sadly it looks like the little guy pictures above isn’t going to make it – he was developed independently by Forge World. If you look back you will see a very steady trend where every army gets either a really big monster or...

Wednesday in the warp: Riflemen dreadnoughts and freehand nonsense

Wednesday in the warp: Riflemen dreadnoughts and freehand nonsense

Hey folks, Another week has gone by and I’ve got a few models to show for it. I’ve finished three riflemen dreadnoughts, Coteaz, Librarian and a rhino. One of the things I’ve enjoyed about painting Sweet E’s stuff is that he has given me artistic control for better or worse, it’s let me do alot of experimentation and test my ability to paint. This beast is Chief among them and was my first real foray into freehand painting. So far it’s been alot of fun but I only have 8 days until WarGamescon, two stormravens left! See you next week, Dan

Warhammer 40k 6th Edition Rumors – Here They Come

Over the last few weeks there has been post after post of rumors about Warhammer 40k 6th edition. I have seen pretty much every major site putting up list after list of new rules and changes to the game. So far what I am seeing is just scary – huge sweeping changes to the rules, things that aren’t making any sense, and what feels like a complete departure to the Warhammer 40k system that I know. I am seeing things like Ballistic Skill being changed to where you look at a chart to see what your Ballistic Skill is, compare it to what you are shooting at, and get the number you need – no more static ‘to hit’ number. This is neat, but seems like kind of a big jump. I am also seeing quite a bit about jump packs changing the way the move – it is...

New Warhammer Fantasy Global Campaign Incoming – Scourge of the Storm

Warhammer Fantasy Scourge of the Storm

Looks like Games Workshop is kicking off a new Warhammer Fantasy Global Campaign – Scourge of the Storm – to coincide with the launch of Storm of Magic. There aren’t any details up on it yet, but hopefully we will get some more info as Storm of Magic gets closer.

Just When I Thought I Knew Everyone In The Local Hobby – Hobby Shop Update

Back when I started my hobby shop a year ago I thought that I knew everyone locally who played Warhammer 40k. We had been playing Warhammer 40k very seriously for about three years at the time, we had been to every local event and tournament in that time. We played at all three local hobby shops regurlary and figured we had met or at least heard of everyone in the community. At the very least I figured that I was at least one step removed from everyone – I may not know person B, but I kow person A who knows person B – but boy was I wrong. Let me go into a bit of detail about our geographic region. We are located in Northwest Arkansas. There are four major cities in the area – Rogers and Bentonville have ran into each other and formed one large ‘super-city’...

Technology as a gaming aid.

Technology as a gaming aid.

For about six months or so I have been torn on if I wanted to get a tablet or not.  Several of the other Hogs have iPads which they use as a reference device for their games.  Armed with the PDFs from Games Workshop’s site for Mordhiem the Hogs winter league was aided by these devices.  Having bought Paizo’s electronic Pathfinder core rule book, monster manual, and the game masters guide  I have found it a pain to use these references on my laptop when in game. Tuesday of this week I finally broke down and decided to get a tablet.  While I love the iPad and the apps I would already have for it, I decided to go a slightly cheaper route and got the Dell Streak 7.  While half the size of the iPad, the streak boast the new Nvidia Tegra 2 chip and Dell is promising...

Razor Spam – Grey Knight Style

Razor Spam – Grey Knight Style

After taking a beating in Warhammer 40k this weekend from some Blood Angel Razorback spam, it got me to thinking about some Grey Knight style razor spam. Now a Grey Knight Razorback spam list would have to function differently than that of Blood Angels, but at the end of the day could have similar effectiveness. I would like to build a list like this out, but as high as it will be, would like to get it close of the first try. So if anyone out there has something they would like to weigh in that I’m missing, I’d love to hear it. Here’s the list as it stands, and beneath it I’ll discuss tactics with other possible choices: 2000 Pts – Grey Knights- Razorspam’n HQ: Inquisitor Coteaz (1#, 100 pts) 1 Inquisitor Coteaz, 100 pts Elite: Purifier Squad (11#, 316 pts) 1 Purifier Squad, 316 pts ((C:GK, pg. 31); Unit Type: Infantry; Brotherhood of Psykers;...

Building a Gaming Table

Building a Gaming Table

A few months ago I offered to build some Warhammer 40k or Warhammer Fantasy gaming tables for War Pig. Currently, the store has four tables, but they don’t make the best use of the space. My hope was to build some nice looking tables that would make gaming at the store a slightly more pleasurable experience while helping Big D more effectively utilize his space. I finally got started on a “test model” this last week, and it’s nearing completion. First off, I should probably preface this with the fact that I am an “over-builder.” If I’m going to spend the time designing and putting something together, I want it to last. I wanted the table to be stable enough that if it were bumped, as so often happens, the models would barely notice. To that end, I used 4″x4″ boards for the four legs. I also used 2″x4″...

Raver Fantasy Orcs

Some local guys are starting up fantasy armies for a league so I just had to jump in on the action. I had a whole boat load of Warhammer Fantasy Orcs sitting around so I decided to bust out a green horde. All of my other Warhammer 40k and Fantasy armies are very dark and grimy, so for these guys I decided to go bright. Like day-glo bright. The guys are already making fun of my color scheme. They said that I need a display board with a disco ball and that I need to get some Necron green rods for them to hold so it will look like they have glow sticks. The color scheme on these guys is as follows – Knarloc Green to Goblin Green to Scorpion Green for the skin, Hawk Turkouise highlighted up to Ice Blue and Macharius Orange highlighted up to Blazing Orange for the cloth, Chainmail...
