Lots of loopholes and things just left out of 6E. Lets start with Chariots.

The necron Command Barge is a Chariot, according the the new Necron FAQ.
1. It charges into a unit thunder hammer terminators (just because), after driving over them doing passover attacks.
2. It makes d6 Hammer of Wrath Impact Hits.
3. At the start of the combat, someone in the unit will make Mindshackle Scarabs Checks (Yes the lord has them)
4. The chariot is now in base to base (though not locked), and the Overlord can swing on his pass.
Lets start with the problems:
1. Can the enemy swing at both the chariot and the overlord? Rule book says enemy MAY attrack the rider.
2. If they swing at the chariot is it against front armor or back armor?
3. At its initiative pass, and at the end of combat does the chariot make a pile in move? It is a vehicle after all.
4. If the chariot sticks for a second round of combat, does it count as moving or stationary? If it piled in it moved.
5.Chariot Charges. It moves base to base with one model per normal assault rules, Assuming neither unit can pile in, what happens of hammer of wrath impact hits kill the one model in base to base? What ifmind shackles had affected this one model?
6. If the chariot is destroyed what happens to the overlord? He must disembark. Does he disembark into combat or out of it? He was in base to base to begin with and can only be within one inch if he’s in a close combat. Also the chariot is open topped, so he could assault again. What if the Chariot exploded?
Like I said. Very poorly written and very unclear. Penny for your thoughts?

I think it’s inadvisable to assume that something works in a particular way because something else in the game works that way – the idea that “WS is involved” therefore you would use the Walker rules is an example of this.
From my reading, the answers would be:
1) Yes. The Chariot is a vehicle which is in combat with the squad, and the Overlord is also in combat due to the Chariot rules.
2) Rear armour. It’s a vehicle in combat with the squad, and there are no rules to indicate otherwise.
3) No. Vehicles don’t make Pile In moves.
4) Stationary. Though there’s no reason to ever do this, since neither side is locked, so they would at least move away and charge again for extra Sweep, Hammer of Wrath and regular attacks.
5) This one is definitely unclear. Personally, I think he would just disembark into combat, since it’s the simplest solution.
Good thoughts Kadeton.
Some more discussion:
What if I charged a unit with scarabs and a chariot? The scarabs locked the unit and then they couldn’t move away. They very well could have to consolidate, instead of getting a fresh charge on the vehicle. I think they have to consolidate away from the vehicle into the scarabs.
Page 76 states that no consolidation is allowed by or toward a vehicle. Page 85 specifically gives walkers the abilitiy to pile and states they are locked.
My head hurts.
WS or not, a walker is a unit type. and seeing as a chariot is not a walker… it is, well, a chariot… there is no reason what so ever to assume that you can use the rules for something else here.
Remember that the rules for specific unit types only tell you where they differ from the regular rules… walkers are different from other vehicles because they fight in combat differently. If there are no such rules for the chariot – that is because they do not treat combat differently to any other vehicle.
I want to read about what the chariot rules say about disembarking because I can’t remember them. If you disembark as usual, then you should simply use the normal disembark rules (or emergency disembark as may be appropriate)… if this means that you can risk your overlord dying due to being surrounded then so be it! it is the risk you take, offset by the fact that you can choose to move away and are not locked!
What happens when the Lord is killed? Does he get a Reanimation Protocol roll? Does he get up inside the vehicle?
