A Game of Thrones Conversion- House Lannister counts as Empire

I wanted to share a little bit of the progress I have made on my House Lannister counts as army.  I have been working on it for about 2 weeks now, and have painted up some horses and demigryphs in the red and gold scheme.  However, the big highlight of this army is going to be actual game of thrones miniatures from Dark Sword Miniatures.  The problem with these miniatures is that they are true scale as opposed to heroic, so they require some work.  Here are the conversions I have been working on the past couple days.

This is the Tywin Lannister model.  I am going to be using it as my Arch Lector.  It is probably my favorite model in the entire series, and required very little work.  The only thing I had to do was chop off his baby arm and add a heroic scale with a sword to make it WYSIWYG.  I had to chop up 2 different arms to get the sword arm, however.  Turns out there aren’t many left handed swordsmen in the empire.

This is the Jaime Lannister model.  I am using it as my mounted warrior priest.  This model was a nightmare to convert.  In fact, I believe I still will have some work to do once I put it on a horse.  I had to saw it in half while keeping the cape together.  This meant little by little taking pieces of pewter down, then using pliers to bend the cape back.  Once I got the body at the right length, it looked incredibly goofy, so I had to green stuff some connecting armor to balance it out.  I tried to do some plate with chain mail in the crevices.  I ran into the same problems with the sword as I did with Tywin- Jaime doesn’t have a right hand, so I had to make a left handed sword.  This time I made it with the greatsword kit, being as it is a  great weapon.

This model was cake to convert.  It is Sandor “The Hound” Clegane.  I am using it as my BSB.  Sometimes models just fall into place.  This was one of those.  The sword fit great, the standard fit great after alittle bending on his left arm.  Looks exactly like I wanted.

My last two pieces I didn’t do anything to.  The one on the left is Tyrion and the one on the right is Cersei.  Tyrion is going to be my master engineer, and Cersei is going to be my wizard.  I think their personalities in the books really fit those roles, and their true scale makes them look smaller, which I wanted.  No conversion here.

Here is a look at the scale that Dark Sword Miniatures did.  I love it.  Tyrion is scaled to actually be a dwarf and The Hound is scaled to actually be 6’6.  I’m looking at getting The Mountain That Rides, which is true scale 7’10.  That one would probably have to be a unit filler.

All and all I really liked the quality of the minis and the way they came together for my army.

Quick side note- DONT BUY FROM CCG ARMORY.  I originally ordered these minis from that web site and waited a month with no response by email or phone.  When I canceled my order, it was like pulling teeth to get a refund out of them.  There are warnings about this site all over the internet, but I figured I’d add mine as well.  The Ebay companies selling them were actually cheaper and much easier to work with anyway.

Very cool, nice work. I’d definitely like to see more, especially once they’re painted. :)

It’s funny you mention this. I’m actually doing the same thing. How are you converting the infantry? Just Empire State Troops?

Yeah I am using state troops. I explored other options but they were pricey. The thought of 100+ conversions made me cringe.

Haha, yeah. I spared my wallet no mercy and are converting mine to be like the show. Mirilton Sallet helmets, Phoenix Guard Legs and Greatsword torsos. At the rate I’m going I should have 40 infantry by 2015.
My friend is also doing a Stark-Baratheon “Roberts War” army as bretonnians, so I at least have a proper rivalry to motivate me!

Sure thing. I just got the bits in, so I’ll make the proof-of-concept tonight.

I guess I’m gonna have to make a Stark Family army, but who should I make for Hodor?
