First 6th Ed Tournament News, Forgeworld Models To Be ‘Officialy’ Sanctioned By GW?

Two bits of news this Saturday afternoon. First up BeakyCon has posted up how they are going to handle 6th edition rules for their tournament. This looks like it will be a pretty standard format for a while. Fliers are in, allies are in, 1999 points (no second FOC), fortifications are in (except Fortress of Redemption), and all the mysterious terrain is out. I have played one game of 6th 40k so far and watched about five and this seems to be a good way to handle a tournament just coming in to the new edition. The second bit of news is that I keep seeing that Forgeworld Models might be officialy sanctioned by GW for use in normal play. This rumor has been a long time coming but hopefully we will see a GW FAQ in the next week or two.

Warmachine: Epic Asphyxious Painted

Warmachine: Epic Asphyxious Painted

For my second Cryx model, I have painted up Epic Asphyxious to go with my deathjack.  I used the same sequence of GW greens and used a purple for the robes.  I intend on using this color scheme throughout and will use gold on models that should be signified as more important.  I’m going to echno the purple color on the cloth of all my bane units. I also played a couple more games with cryx and had a lot of fun with them.  I really dig the Bane Knight combo with his feat, and it appeals to ‘the all my eggs in one basket’ side of my gaming mentality. After a local deal I am pulled my list up to 50 points, and then at Wargamescon Privateer Press was giving away starter boxes.  So after a few more purchases I will start working on a Denegrha list. What do…

Jumping Ship- 40k Player goes to Fantasy

Jumping Ship- 40k Player goes to Fantasy

I got into Warhammer when I came up to Fayetteville, AR to go to college in the fall of 2007.  I went to the local shop and they sold me on starting a fantasy army.  That lasted all of a week before I completely quit the game.  To me, it was a boring game that held no appeal.  Fast forward to the Summer of 2009.  I studied abroad in Ireland, where they introduced me to 40k.  I fell in love and the rest is short history.  One of the things that made 40k stick for me was the fact that there was a strong local following- one that was adequate to keep my competitive spirit alive. Now, 3 years later I find myself moving again.  This time to an area where fantasy reigns supreme.  The question was whether I should go back to fantasy, or remain solely a 40k player. …

Imperial Guard Allied Vendetta – The Iron Warriors Are Getting Some Reinforcements

Imperial Guard Allied Vendetta – The Iron Warriors Are Getting Some Reinforcements

With the Warhammer 40k 6th edition rules allowing allies I decided I needed to get the ball rolling. Since I am in the process of redoing my Chaos Space Marines and I had a spare Vendetta laying around I decided to paint it up in CSM colors. I toyed around with a few options and decided to go with an Iron Warriors theme. I have been painting a lot of yellow lately and I figured I could do some pretty good hazard stripes using an airbrush and some painters tape. The overall process was pretty easy. I primed the underside of the model black and the top white. I then built up a few layers of yellow and masked off where I wanted the yellow to be. I then hit the model with a layer of black and peeled the tape off when it was dry. From there I did…

Page 80 fixes this!

Page 80 fixes this!

So no one is talking about this?! I have the new book. Look at the picture and decide what the implication is? Now granted, I’m only on page 20. But I didnt see anything that allowed you to charge transport innards anywhere in my quick flip through.

Things That Stick Out From The New Warhammer 40k 6th Edition Rulebook

Just got my hands on a copy of the new Warhammer 40k 6th Edition rulebook and there are a few things that are popping out to me. The first is the USR for Brotherhood of Psykers – there is also a mention of Brotherhood of Sorcerors. Hello Thousand Sons. My guess is that units of Thousand Sons will operate much like current units of Grey Knights Work. Another USR that cought my eye was Bulky. Bulky Models count as two units in a transport. There are also Very Bulky which count as three and Extremely Bulky which count as five. My guess is that Terminators will be Bulky, Oblits will be Very Bulky, and infantry on 60mm bases (Blood Crushers) will be Extremely Bulky. Fear is in. It works a bit differently than I was expecting. You test for it each fight sub-phase. ATSKNF and Fearless are immune to it,…

Why I Am Excited For 6th Edtion Warhammer 40k

Warhammer40KRulebook6th

The biggest reason that I am excited for the 6th edition of Warhammer 40k is that I am tired of fifth. The game has become stale to me. You pretty much know which army types are going to beat which other army types, and with the last few codexes there has been an ever increasing gap in power levels compared to some of the older codexes. It is time for a change.     Whether this change ends up being one that I enjoy more than 5th is still up in the air. To me it looks like they have changed the spirit of the game. Random charge lengths, hull points, completely reworked vehicle movement and shooting, flyers, the list goes on and on. Will these things make the game more fun? I think we will know in about two to three months. The thing that I am most excited…

Warhammer 40k 6th Edition Rules Summary

Here is the best rules summary for the new edition of Warhammer 40k that I have found so far - Core System Turn system is the same New deep strike mishap only kills you on a 1 No consolidating into new enemies. All the fortifications are already GW terrain models. The Aegis defense line is 50pts. Bastion is 75. Fortress of Redemption is 220. Skyshield Landing pad is the final. You get 1 fortification, and upgrades are along the lines of extra guns, or Comms Relay for 20 oints that rerolls reserves. (Skyshield comes with this) Still roll for your turn and seize initiative Night Fight mean you cant shoot over 36″. Over 24″ away has shrouded (+2 cover save), over 12 away has stealth. Night fight is in play for all the missions. It is only in effect on a 4+ however, and you roll for it to go…

Back From Wargamescon

Back From Wargamescon

We all survived the journey to Austin and managed to make it back in one piece. It was an awesome tournament and was very well done this year. The Bols guys did a terrific job – even more so than years past. The bigger venue was excellent and gave needed space for moving around. The schedule was adhered to and the judging was done proactively. I cracked a book open three times during the 10 games and each time a judge asked me what I was looking for before I found the page. I thought this was a nice touch, and coupled with an extended 2 hours 15 minute games meant most people were finishing their games. I also really liked all the demos and the vendor areas. Props to the Privateer Press guys who ran demos and gave away starter boxes to everyone who tried it. Catering to a…

Trollbloods Dire Troll Mauler

Hordes - Trollblood Dire Troll

Warmachine / Hordes has been gaining traction in our area for quite a while now. A little over a year I tried my hand at a War Hog and was pleased with the results. I was happy with how the model painted up, but from what I had learned from talking to people and reading on the internet, the faction was just not up to snuff. For this go round I decided to try painting up a Trollbloods Dire Troll Mauler. I wanted to see if I could paint the skin with an airbrush and then fill in the detail on the rest of the model. Since the model is about 80% skin I figured if I could get good results with the airbrush the model would end up looking pretty good. To start off with I primed the model white. I then applied a layer of black with the…

Dabbling With Warmachine: Cryx Death Jack Painted

Dabbling With Warmachine: Cryx Death Jack Painted

I think I am suffering by the same ‘end of the edition burn out’ so many are feeling in the blogging community. As 5th edition 40k wanes, I have taken it upon myself to paint up a few Warmachine models and give the game a try. My favorite model, bar none, was the Death Jack as I looked the line over. I had no idea what it would do, but I was sure it was going to be good. I mean look at this thing and its giant chain wrapped fists!  Whats not to love? Regardless, I set about painting the model and I wanted to go with an alternate paint scheme. I went with the new GW green sequence and it gave it a unique coloring. I also decided I wanted prominate use of metals in the models as well. My last two armies, the eldar and the necrons,…
